Smithers Juniors Beat Vanderhoof to Retain Mutual Life Trophy

Smithers Juniors retained possession of the Mutual Life hockey Cup in a two-game, total-goal series played here against Vanderhoof challengers last Wednesday and Thursday. SMITHERS JUNIORS – Goal, Don McFarland; defense, Tom Robinson, Bill Kilpatrick, Garry Stacey; forwards, D. Huntington, Bob Irving, Jack Bovill, Art Buchanan, Art Delage, Don Herman, Dave Oulton; spares, Norm McFarland, Ian MacDonald, Ray Banta.

Break it Up
Paul Roumieu refereed for many years in the Smithers Arena before he left Smithers to become an RCMP officer in 1968, and then again for many years after he returned to the community. Kate Roumieu sent in this photo of her Dad (Paul) in action. The photo was likely taken in about 1968, when Paul was about eighteen years old or so.
The Smithers Oldtimers
2006 marks the 27th year that the Smithers Oldtimers Hockey League has come to be in existence. The League is currently made up form men, Aged 35 or older that have a passion to play the game of hockey…instead of just sitting on the couch and watching it on television!
