Welcome to Hockeyville!

From far and wide...

Smithereens at heart are sending in their photos and stories about what Hockeyville and Smithers is all about, Community Spirit.

Pictured above is Craig Lester while on vacation in Cancun. Even though he worked hard to take a break from work, he just could not get away from Hockeyville!

Manitoba sees Smithers’ sign

Re: Smithers named Top 25 finalist

It was Sunday 9:38 a.m., (just outside Lorette, Manitoba) I was driving to church and I had to wait for a passing train. Looking at the cars and cars of lumber rolling by I once again saw many names of sawmills I knew from the years that I lived in Smithers thinking: Hmmmm, I wonder if this wood came from Smithers and then suddenly there it was, a bright red sign with the slogan: SMITHERS IS HOCKEYVILLE. For those that do not know where Lorette, Manitoba is, it’s 10 kilometers east of Winnipeg. Yes, the sign was still holding up well. Not a clue where the sign was going but thought those responsible may get a kick out of the fact that a former Smithereen took note of it. Go Smithers!

Wendy Guenter told her daughter (Naomi Heideman) that if Smithers made it to the top 50, she would send each of her grandchildren who live in Sherwood Park Alberta a jersey. When the package arrived, Lane and his sister Christine were very excited. They immediately put on their jerseys and went out onto their driveway and showed their love for Smithers by drawing figure skaters and hockey players as well as the slogan “Smithers is Hockeyville” for all to see.

“Smithers is Hockeyville” made it all the way to Cuba!! Cuba is watching, waiting & cheering on Smithers.. We put the bumper sticker on our friend’s car & asked Jack’s friends to pose for a photo or two.
